Prince Charles Enjoys His Newcastle Furniture Company Kitchen

Posted on November 22, 2012 by Sam Mills

The Edinburgh arm has recently installed three Newcastle Furniture Company kitchens at the Prince Charles Dumfries House development in Ayrshire.

The Prince’s idea at Dumfries House was to not only retain intact an important piece of Scottish heritage, but to provide a kick-start for the economy of the surrounding area. It will have a café, a guesthouse, wedding and event facilities, and at nearby Knockroon they are creating a newly built housing community, all providing vital employment opportunities for the local residents.

ITV followed Prince Charles' efforts to restore the Ayrshire stately home to its former glory in a documentary, Prince Charles: the Royal Restoration.  Dumfries House is portrayed as an 18th-century gem. Adam-designed and including at least fifty original pieces by Thomas Chippendale – some specially made for the house – along with the finest surviving collection of carved Scottish rococo furniture.

Our hand -painted furniture was specified by the interior designer as the timeless, elegant look it creates blends in perfectly with the original features of the properties.

The Tangletree Desk and The Leaning Shelves of Gateshead

Posted on September 26, 2012 by Sam Mills

Much liking a new design by Jeremy Pearce, named - somewhat tongue-in-cheek, The Leaning Shelves of Gateshead (which is where the company’s workshops are located) Steve Storey, Design Director of Tangletree Interiors designed a desk to compliment it and ordered one for his showroom in Rutherford Street.

While making Steve's desk (in walnut) Newcastle Furniture made an identical one for their own showroom in oak and, as it was well received, added it to their range of freestanding furniture.

A simple and elegant piece with tapered and angled legs that reference furniture designs of the 60s, this desk also works very well as a bedroom dressing table. As a desk, the simple cable management arrangement allows wiring to reach the desktop via a route behind the wide shallow drawer in a tidy fashion.

The desk and leaning shelves are available in maple, oak, walnut and a selection of paint finishes.  See the online shop pages on Newcastle Furniture’s web site for more information and dimensions.
